What is open/closed in the Region of Waterloo this Canada Day weekend

For the Canada Day weekend, Waterloo Region has released a list of services and businesses that will be open and closed. With Canada Day falling on a Saturday this year, some services and programs will be closed on Mon, July 3 to observe the holiday.

Here is what is open and closed this weekend:

Grand River Transit

The GRT will operate on a holiday service schedule. Holiday service is noted on all route schedules. GRT customer service locations and hours of operation

  • 35 Ainslie St. S., Cambridge | 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Note: Customer service will be closed from about 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • 105 King St. E., Kitchener | 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • 250 Strasburg Rd., Kitchener | closed

Region of Waterloo Call Centre

  • Open 24/7 and can be reached at 519-575-4400 for those need assistance from the Region

Region of Waterloo International Airport

  • Operating normal hours

Waste, recycling, green bin and yard waste

  • Curbside waste collection will remain the same. The Region reminds residents to have waste items to the curb by 7 a.m.

Region of Waterloo Museums

  • Ken Seiling Museum: open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Schneider Haus: open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • McDougall Cottage: open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Libraries

  • Library branches that are normally open Mondays will be open July 3, but will be closed on July 1

Cooling Centres

  • Cooling centres at 150 Main (Cambridge) and 150 Frederick (Kitchener) will be open seven days a week, including holidays
  • The cooling centre at 99 Regina (Waterloo) – closed Monday, July 3

Other services and centres

  • Cambridge and Waterloo small vehicle transfer stations for residential waste drop-off – closed on Saturday July 1
  • Welcome Spaces (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 235 King) – closed Monday, July 3
  • Home Child Care is operating as specified by your provider. Offices will be closed Monday, July 3. For urgent issues, call the Region Call Centre and ask for Home Child Care
  • Sunnyside Home reception and administration – closed Monday, July 3, but visitors and caregivers are welcome
  • Sunnyside Wellness Centre – closed Monday, July 3
  • Community Alzheimer Day Programs – closed Monday, July 3
