Fire ban lifted for local townships

A week long fire ban has now been lifted for rural townships in Waterloo Region.

The Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich officially lifted the ban on Monday.

In a statement, the townships cited the recent precipitation as the reason for the removal of the fire ban.

The townships said that conditions will continue to be monitored over the course of the summer, and warned that if hot and dry weather returns, additional burn bans may be implemented.

The four communities are asking the public to remain cautious and attentive, and to have extinguishing agents available at all times.

The fire ban was first put in to place on June 6th.

Burn bans are still in effect for Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo.
