Kitchener Committee to discuss 42-storey tower at Victoria and Park

By Mark Douglas

Kitchener city councillors are going to hear the pros and cons of replacing the handful of houses at Victoria Street South and Park Street with a 42-storey tower.

A pitch from the developer, and responses from concerned citizens, are all coming up at the Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee Monday evening.

According to council documents, the mixed use development includes 436 residential units.

The small triangle of land it would take up currently has mostly rental houses, with seven residential units.

Comments already submitted to Council include concerns about traffic volume on Victoria Street with so many more people potentially living there.

Another citizen wrote in, asking, “Where are these 40 storey somethings going to end?”

The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
