WCDSB formally accepts Wendy Ashby’s resignation

At a Public Special Board Meeting on Wednesday, the Waterloo Catholic District School Board formally accepted the resignation of Trustee Wendy Ashby.
Ashby was recently scrutinized for some of her tweets at a board meeting in April.
The board also decided to cancel a previous motion to look into the situation by hiring an outside consultant to investigate.
On Monday, May 29, the WCDSB will decide if it will replace Ashby with a by-election or by appointment.
Ashby stated her attention to resign earlier this month.

The Board of Trustees of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board formally accepted the resignation of Kitchener/Wilmot Trustee Wendy Ashby at a Public Special Board Meeting held on May 24, 2023.
The Board also rescinded its previous motion to hire an outside consultant to investigate the allegation of a breach of the Code of Conduct and close the Code of Conduct investigation.
Under Section 221 of the Education Act, the Board of Trustees has two options via which to fill the vacant Kitchener/Wilmot seat (the vacant seat is one of four seats allotted to Kitchener/Wilmot):
- Hold a by-election “in the same manner as an election of the board
- Appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy within 90 days after the office becomes vacant.
Tonight, the Board received information regarding the options above. These options will come for decision at the next Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, May 29, 2023.
