The Boathouse construction commencing this summer

The wait for The Boathouse continues.

Construction for the food and live music venue in Victoria Park was originally scheduled to begin early this year for a summer reopening, but Walkinshaw Holdings, the group overseeing the operations, told CityNews in a statement on Tuesday that construction will instead commence this summer.

The group said they have been working on a thorough update to the community that they hope to share late next week.

“We’re excited to talk about where we’re at and give a better update to the folks who have been patiently waiting for something to happen,” reads the statement.

They added they are successfully through heritage and site planning phase.

Kitchener Council provided lease approval in December to allow Walkinshaw Holdings to redevelop The Boathouse.

The City website states the renovations, approved by Kitchener’s Heritage Committee in 2022, will include expansion of the outdoor patio, upgrading the interior, improving the main entrance and enhancing the views of Victoria Park Lake.

The venue will have paid local live music at least two days a week, and serve locally sourced food and drink.

A local arts fund and Community Advisory Committee will also be formed in efforts to have inclusive and diverse programming.

Information and updates on The Boathouse’s developments are available through the venue’s website and on-site signage.
