Collision in Elmira connected to stolen vehicle investigation

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Waterloo Regional Police say a crash in Elmira, involving a stolen vehicle, led to an attempt to steal the other vehicle in the crash, and then to the discovery of more stolen vehicles.

It all began just before 7:00 a.m. Monday with a collision on Listowel Road near Three Bridges Road.

A man and a woman left their allegedly stolen vehicle, and tried to take the other vehicle, but it was too badly damaged.

Police say the suspects ran off instead.

A K-9 Unit found them hiding in a shed about a kilometre away. Police are crediting police dog Ranger with the discovery of the pair.

Police note the same suspects were involved with other stolen vehicles in Elmira and Kitchener, one of which has been recovered.

A 43-year-old man and 26-year-old woman are facing numerous charges, with the woman also charged for breaching court orders.
