Local teacher facing charges in connection with sexual assault investigation (update)

A local teacher has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault investigation. 

According to Waterloo Regional Police, they received reports in early February that multiple youths were sexually assaulted by a male suspect. 

The allegations centred on a teacher at a senior public school in the Forest Hill area of Kitchener. The school has not been named. 

On Thursday, police said a 52-year-old Wilmot man was arrested and charged with eight counts of sexual assault and sexual interference. He will appear in court on April 3. His name has not been released. 

The joint investigation involved the WRPS Youth Protection Unit and Family and Children Services of the Waterloo Region.

Anyone with further information on the investigation is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

A statement to CityNews 570 from the Waterloo Region District School Board reads as follows:

“WRDSB is aware of the situation. Prior to today's announcement, we followed our established protocol, which includes assigning the staff member to home as soon as the complaint was made and working with Family and Children Services and Waterloo Regional Police Service to ensure student safety and well-being. As this matter is now before the courts we are unable to discuss the particulars of this situation.”
