Kitchener man clocked at almost double posted speed limit

A 31-year-old Kitchener man is facing stunt driving related charges after a vehicle was pulled over by police at nearly the double the posted speed limit. 

According to police, that incident occurred on Sunday around 5:15 p.m. as an officer observed the involved vehicle while conducting speed enforcement in the Ottawa Street North and Dreger Avenue area. 

It's said that officer noted the vehicle travelling southbound on Ottawa Street North at a high rate of speed, travelling into oncoming traffic to pass other motorists. 

That driver is said to have been travelling at 99 km/h in a 50 km/h zone – resulting in a traffic stop being conducted. 

A subsequent police investigation has lead to a number of charges for the accused including: 

  • Stunt Driving 
  • Careless Driving
  • Speeding
  • Insecure Load
  • Obstructed Plate

Police said a driver license suspension was also issued for 30 days, and the involved vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
