Police make arrest in Kitchener homicide investigation

By Luke Schulz

A 22-year-old Kitchener man is now facing charges of second degree murder, as well as a list of firearm related offenses, in connection to a Kitchener homicide investigation.

That investigation stemmed from a shooting incident, believed to be targeted in nature, that occurred in the Wellington Street North and St. Leger Street area of Kitchener on Sunday shortly after 9 p.m.

The victim of that shooting, 47-year-old Frederick Pfeiffer from Cambridge, succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday.

According to police, members of the service's Major Crime Unit and Emergency Response Unit located a male suspect in the area of Highland Road West and Westmount Road West on Wednesday, initiating a “high-risk take-down” and taking that man into custody.

That Kitchener man was held in police custody for a bail hearing, set to take place on Thursday.

The investigation is still ongoing by members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Major Crimes Unit, as well as their Forensic Identification Unit.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
