‘Cleaning up after Santa Claus’: Reminders on holiday waste disposal

After all the excitement from unwrapping presents and digging into your big family meal, comes the dreaded holiday clean-up.
The good news is, the Region of Waterloo is doubling the amount of garbage bags we can put out for curbside collection following both Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
The schedule really depends on where you live, and what your regular curbside collection day is.
In general, increased garbage bag limits will be available for Waterloo and Cambridge residents during the weeks of December 26 and January 9.
For Kitchener and township residents, 'double garbage weeks' will be from January 2 to January 6, and again from January 16 to January 20.
Real Christmas tree collection will also run in all municipalities from January 2 to January 13 on regular collection days. A reminder, you'll need to remove any lights, ornaments and stands before placing it at the curb.
Artificial trees can also be placed at the curb and will be collected as a bulky item. You can always check the Waste Whiz app to see how to properly dispose of items, including wrapping paper.
