List of Remembrance Day ceremonies across Waterloo Region

Thousands across Waterloo Region and Canada will pause to remember on Friday, November 11; here are some spots where local Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place.

The Royal Canadian Legion Fred Gies Branch 50 will hold its annual Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11, starting at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will begin on Ontario Street and proceed along King Street and Frederick Street to the cenotaph on Duke Street in downtown Kitchener. The service is open to the public, but please be mindful if you are experiencing any cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms. 

Other remembrance ceremonies taking place locally include the annual Sikh Remembrance Day Ceremony at Mount Hope Cemetery on Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m., as well as the annual German Remembrance Day Service (Volkstrauertag) at Woodland Cemetery on Nov. 13 at 2:30 p.m.  

Waterloo's ceremony will take place at the Waterloo Cenotaph located behind city hall on Nov.11. The parade will begin around 10 a.m., then head to the cenotaph.

In Cambridge, the Galt Legion will be hosting a parade beginning at 10:10 a.m. on Nov. 11 with a gathering scheduled after with entertainment.

The Preston Legion will also be parading from their branch up to the cenotaph beginning at 10:30 a.m, before hosting a remembrance banquet at a cost of $20 per person later in the evening. Veterans, spouses and caregivers are free with the doors opening at 5 p.m. and dinner beginning at 6 p.m.

In Hespeler, the legion will be hosting their service at the Hespeler Cenotaph at 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 8 also marks Indigenous Veterans Day in Canada, honouring the important contributions made by First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans in service to our country.
