OPP investigating after human remains found in Lake Erie

By Erin Anderson

Provincial police are extending a plea for information across the border after human remains were found in Lake Erie.

OPP are asking both Canadians and Americans for assistance in their investigation as they look to identify the deceased.

The body was found Tuesday afternoon at the tip of Long Point by members of the Canadian Coast Guard and Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton, as they were in the water conducting training exercises.

The OPP marine unit was then called in to bring the body to shore.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled and the Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit continues to investigate.

A release from OPP read, “The deceased is described as a white male, 5'9 to 5'10, approximately 160 to 180 lbs, with brown hair. He was wearing a grey hoody with a “RED MTN” logo of the front of the sweater that is blue, black, and grey in colour, jeans, and black hiking styled running shoes/boots.”

Anyone with information on the investigation can call police at 1-888-310-1122, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
