Heritage designation stripped from former Preston Springs property

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Cambridge city council has repealed the heritage designation for the former Preston Springs Hotel property.

The city says it is the first step in helping to facilitate the next chapter of the property at 102 Fountain Street South.

The building had been vacant since 1990, which created significant issues in terms of vandalism, safety and trespassing. It was then demolished in December 2020 due to ongoing safety issues.

The hotel, which opened in 1888, would draw tourists from around the world who wanted to enjoy the famous mineral springs.

The property is now owned by Haastown Holdings.
