Shantz Hill reopened (update)

A major closure in the Preston area of Cambridge Thursday morning after a crash in the Shantz Hill area.

Shantz Hill Road reopened in both directions between Preston Parkway and Fountain St South after hydro crews finished repairs.  

Police say the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. when a Dodge Journey was travelling southbound on Shantz Hill, left the roadway, crashed into a hydro pole, and spun out. The vehicle was towed away shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday.

Regional Police say the man behind the wheel of the vehicle fled the scene and was last seen walking on Preston Parkway.

The investigation is ongoing with police asking anyone with information to come forward. They can call the Traffic Services Unit at 519-570-9777 extension 8856 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Power was restored in that stretch around 2:30 p.m.

GrandBridge Energy is reporting 187 customers were in the dark due to the crash.
