Regional police are providing more information regarding a townhouse complex fire that occurred on Friday, resulting in lengthy road closures around that neighbourhood.
That blaze saw emergency crews responding to the area of Donnenwerth Drive in Kitchener around 8:00 p.m., as police said they encountered dark clouds of smoke and flames coming from the complex upon arrival.
Crews from the Kitchener Fire Department battled that blaze for “several hours,” with the fire resulting in two units sustaining substantial fire and water damage.
Police add that all adjacent residential units were able to be cleared safely, while no physical injuries are reported in relation to the fire.
The Kitchener Fire Department has since determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, as they estimate damage to be roughly $1.6 million dollars.
Roads in the area were closed for several hours as emergency crews remained on scene.
Roads are closed at:
– Activa and Yarrow, Donnenwerth and Activa, Max Becker and Lemonbalm, Donnenwerth and Periwinkle and Donnenwerth and Bleams in Kitchener.
– Snyders Road between Brenneman and Nafizger in Wilmot Township.
