Police locate loaded firearm, make arrests after reported gunshots in Kitchener (update)

Officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service are continuing to investigate reports of gunshots in Kitchener.

According to the service, shots were reported in the area of Weber Street East and Kinzie Avenue around 2:50 a.m. 

Police received reports that the suspects had fled the area in a vehicle. They were able to locate the suspect vehicle travelling on Highway 8 near Sportsworld Drive, arresting the two occupants. 

During the arrest they located a loaded firearm. 

A 26-year-old Oakville woman has been charged with: 

  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm 

A 33-year-old man is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carry concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon – prohibited device – extended magazine 
  • Discharging firearm – recklessness 
  • Occupy a motor vehicle knowing a firearm is present 
  • Possess a restricted firearm with ammunition 
  • Firearm tampering – without lawful excuse in possession of a firearm knowing that the serial number has been altered 
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order (six counts)

Residents can expect a heavy police presence in that area as the investigation continues. Anyone with information pertaining to those shots is being asked to contact regional police or Crime Stoppers.
