Farwell4Hire campaign inching closer to target goal of $140K

CityNews 570's Mike Farewell says momentum has been picking up as the month trails along, and they are getting busier by the day. As a result, the campaign will move beyond the May 31 deadline and will now end on June 5.

“I am tired, but I am feeling good. With that momentum that grows as the campaign goes on, it gives me a little push, 'a little wind in my sail.' I am ready to go, and I will push hard for the next ten days. I will not stop moving my feet until the end of the day on June 5. That is a promise”

This year's goal is to raise $140,000. So far, the campaign has raised around $70,000.

“I stopped by a local business that had a new location, and they didn't want me to do a job. They said come and pick up a cheque. There are a thousand dollars more.” He adds, “There is a family foundation, and for the second year in a row now, it has contributed $5,000 to our campaign. Those are significant donations to us.”

Farwell adds one day alone they had a “massive” day raising about $10,000, but the goal to reach the 140,000 has been a “really slow burn.” Farewell expressed that every one of those hours and days is needed to reach that total.

There are still lots of ways people can get involved.

“Coming up on June 4, you can go to the Southworks Antique. The Cambridge Nostalgia Company is hiring me as a sales rep for the day. A portion of the sales will be donated to the campaign. We will be at Barrie's Asparagus for deep-fried asparagus on June 5, and anyone is welcome.

The 50/50 draw is still open, tickets are as low as 10 dollars, and the jackpot is already over 14k.

“The higher the draw, the higher we get that jackpot, the higher the more that contributes to Cystic Fibrosis.”

He added, “There a big things coming down the pipe.”

“If it is a record-breaking year, it would be almost a miracle.”

Last year the campaign raised $223,000. Farwell said if they can reach their goal, it would take us to one million dollars, raising the total for the drive over nine years.

Farwell said they are at the treacherous point of the campaign and have very few slots available.

“It's going to be a push. That's why we are going until June 5, and we will work as hard as possible until the end.”
