Regional police have charged three people with drug-related offences after a traffic stop in Kitchener.

At around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, police tried to stop a vehicle in the Kinzie Avenue and Guerin Avenue area.

But, instead of stopping, the driver of the vehicle had attempted to flee at a high speed before he abruptly stopped only a short distance away.

After investigation, police seized about 36 grams of suspected fentanyl and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine from the people inside the vehicle.

Officers also found a digital scale, packaging, several cell phone and tablets, as well as around $5000 in cash.

The driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old Kitchener man, and the two passengers, a 24-year-old Kitchener woman and 40-year-old Kitchener man were all jointly charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The driver is also facing a charge for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
