UW’s goose watch map on hiatus again this spring

For the third year in a row, the University of Waterloo (UW) will not be running its popular goose watch map.
It first launched in 2013 and gives students, staff, and other UW community members a heads up on where goose nests are located so they can avoid the area and a potential feisty, feathered encounter.
The last time it was active was in 2019 as the pandemic had already taken hold in the spring of 2020 and 2021.
COVID-19 is also getting the blame this year. A spokesperson with UW told CityNews 570 the map will not be maintained due to the timing of the return to campus this term.
An e-mail statement said, “We encourage all members of our campus community to exercise caution around nesting pairs or goslings, and provide them ample space they need in order to feel safe.”
