Regional growth more than double that of the City of Toronto

Over the last five years, Waterloo Region has been growing at more than twice the pace of the City of Toronto.
That is according to data from last year's census. Statistics Canada reports Toronto grew 4.6 per cent from 2016 to 2021 while Waterloo Region grew by 9.9 per cent.
That means, on average, the Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo census metropolitan area added more than 10,000 people per year over the last five, rising from a population of 523,894 in 2016 to 575,847 as of 2021.
The City of Waterloo saw the most growth, 15.7 per cent over 2016 with a current population of 121,436; while at 256,885 the City of Kitchener grew 10.1 per cent.
Cambridge brings up the rear with its population growing 6.6 per cent to 138,479.
Canada as a whole grew by 5.2 per cent between 2016 and 2021 with a total population 39,991,981.
