Paid parking coming to Waterloo’s Northdale neighbourhood

By Brandon Graziano

There will be paid on-street parking now in the Northdale neighbourhood of Waterloo.

It's being called broad policy direction as the City of Waterloo is now implementing paid on-street parking for the neighbourhood of Northdale.

The reason being, is that council believes it will help fight the climate crisis faced all across the globe.

Councillor Jeff Henry says vehicular transportation takes up the majority of local emissions.

“Certainty, we've identified through a broad range of policy documents that need to take serious and meaningful action particular against transportation emissions, which have become about half of our local emissions.”

Henry says it makes sense to put paid for parking in the Northdale neighbourhood.

“I think it's important for us to take a strong look at shifting that responsibility in areas that are incredibly well served by active transportation infrastructure that is connected, that is close to destination.”
