Albert McCormick Central Plaza now open

The City of Waterloo's newest outdoor space is now in play.

The Albert McCormick Central Plaza, located at 500 Parkside Drive, officially opened on Friday. It includes a skatepark, climbing structure, accessible basketball court and splash court.

“Waterloo loves the skatepark uptown,” Brooke Milsom, landscape technologist for the City of Waterloo and the lead on this project, explained in a news release. “We are thrilled to bring another skatepark, and several other amenities, to this beloved community centre.” 

A local artist is also being hired to design and install two community benches in the space.

Users are reminded to follow COVID-19 guidelines when using the plaza:

  • The splash court is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • All other amenities are open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Splash court: During busy times, please keep your visit to less than 20 minutes.
  • Basketball court: During busy times, please keep your visit to less than 45 minutes.
  • If areas are busy, please form a queue and wait your turn. Maintain 2 m distance. Masks recommended while waiting.
