GoFundMe organized for family of man killed in River Road motorcycle crash

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise money for the family of a Kitchener man killed in a collision on River Road East on Monday.

Regional police said a motorcycle being driven by a 29-year-old Kitchener man, since identified as Josh Zuurhoud, struck the back of a Toyota Prius just after 1:00 a.m. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Friends and community members have joined in remembering Zuurhoud, sharing their condolences for his loss on the Food in Waterloo Region Facebook group in which he supposedly shared his own food recommendations and “great sense of humour”. Many members of the group have shared their sentiments, expressing how they will miss Zuurhoud’s “hilarious comments” and back-and-forth debates.

Zuurhoud’s sister Jess expressed her thanks in that Facebook group for the kind words and memories, as she said her brother knew “all the best places in town to eat”.

Organized to cover the “burden of costs” for Josh Zuurhoud’s family, that GoFundMe campaign has already surpassed its goal of $5,000 – with over 50 donors reaching out to offer their support.

“Passionate in his career path as an electrician … he was funny, outgoing and loyal to all those who he loved and will be missed dearly.” wrote Ciarra Botosan, organizer of the fundraiser page.

The Monday morning collision on River Road is still currently under investigation by Waterloo Regional Police.

A separate motorcycle was reportedly involved in the incident, as two individuals were “ejected” from the bike after trying to avoid the collision.
