Four more arrested in connection with April shooting in Kitchener (update)

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

There was a heavy police presence in the Overlea Drive and Overlea Court area of Kitchener on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were conducting an investigation in connection with a shooting back on April 22.

Four people were arrested on Wednesday — a 19-year-old man, 22-year-old man, 21-year-old woman, and 51-year-old woman — all who are residents of Kitchener. They're facing drug and weapons-related charges. The 19-year-old now arrested originally suffered gunshot wounds during the incident.

“Police believe this was a targeted incident, so there is no risk to public safety at this time. As mentioned, it is an on-going investigation and anyone with any additional information is encouraged to contact police or CrimeStoppers.” WRPS Constable Ashley Dietrich told media at the scene.

She did not say if police are looking for additional suspects.

One witness of the arrest said it was over quite quickly.

“I was just about to head and get a coffee, and there was an undercover SUV that stopped, and as I turned the corner all these police just came to this area, and they just asked for the gentleman and whoever was in the house to come out, and they came out. It was pretty quick, that was about it,” said Garett Furber, who has lived in the area for 30 years.

“If there's any problems in the neighbourhood, it's good to get it dealt with. There's a lot of kids, and a lot of neighbours that are concerned in the area, so it's always good to see some action.”

Three men were injured in the April shooting.

Prior to Wednesday, police arrested a 26-year-old Brampton man and a 27-year-old Milton man. Both are facing firearm and drug-related offences.
