Three local students selected for junior astronaut camp

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

52 young Canadians will get quite the opportunity later this summer to learn about space, and what it takes to be an astronaut.

Three students from Waterloo Region have been selected to participate in the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) Junior Astronaut Camp. Aalaa Rehman and Katelyn Xayavong are both Grade 9 students from Kitchener, and Waterloo's Adeline Latour is in Grade 7.

The camp, which will be held virtually, will happen between July 26 and July 30.

The CSA says the participants will take part in activities such as operating a real rover during a simulated Moon mission, solving Earth problems using satellite imagery, and working out with astronauts and space fitness experts.

The 52 students were selected through a random draw from a pool of eligible candidates who had previously completed online Junior Astronauts activities.
