Region surpasses 250,000 vaccinations

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The Region of Waterloo hit an important milestone Wednesday in the fight against COVID-19. Over 250,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered.

50 per cent of residents 18 and over will also have received at least one dose of the vaccine on Wednesday.

The region says as vaccine allotment increases for the rest of this month and June, more residents can expect to be contacted to book an appointment.

Currently, essential workers, adults 50+, individuals with at-risk health conditions, health care workers, and adults 18+ living in priority neighbourhoods are being booked in for appointments. Those still waiting to book an appointment are adults 18-49 years of age and youth 12-17 years of age.

As of Tuesday, 16,513 residents (3.55 per cent) had been fully vaccinated. The region began administering vaccinations in late December.
