The Canadian Shield announces new partnership

By Blair Adams

The Canadian Shield has partnered with Canadian Hospital Specialties, a national specialty distributor of medical and surgical products.

The Canadian Shield, which is based in Waterloo Region, states the new strategic partnership will put the company one step closer in fulfilling their commitment to making Canadian-made Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) accessible to hospitals in this country.

Medical-grade procedural and surgical face masks, as well as other Class 1 medical devices, made by The Canadian Shield, will be included in Canadian Hospital Specialties surgical kits distributed to hospitals across the country.

“Over the past year, domestic PPE manufacturers have worked hard to build a medical device manufacturing industry from the ground up in Canada – and as we approach our one year anniversary, we are proud to be at the forefront of medical device manufacturing automation, IP, and innovation on a national level.” Jeremy Hedges, CEO and founder of The Canadian Shield said in a news release.

“Securing strategic partnerships with like-minded distributors such as Canadian Hospital Specialties is an important step forward in our growth as a scaling manufacturer of PPE in our country.” Hedges added.

Canadian Hospital Specialties is based in Oakville.

The Canadian Shield recently had to layoff close to 50 staff, citing issues in getting their face masks and shields to the healthcare industry.

Many Canadian PPE makers have been unable to sell their products to our country's hospitals due to existing industry contracts signed prior to the pandemic.
