Region reports 56 new COVID cases, two outbreaks declared over

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 56 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday afternoon.

This latest update brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 10,361 since March.

The number of active cases has increased to 310 from 306 since Saturday.

Here are some other updates from the Waterloo Region's COVID summary dashboard on Sunday:

• 9,821 resolved cases (95 per cent).
• There have been 222 deaths in the region linked to the virus. The latest was confirmed on February 20.
• 18 cases are currently hospitalized (seven in ICU). 
• 13,001 people in the region fully vaccinated.

There are currently 22 active outbreaks in the region:

• Food Processing 7 (five cases)
• Warehousing 6 (two cases)
• Grand River Hospital – 5 North 
• Congregate setting 30 (seven cases)
• The Village at University Gates long-term-care – Wright Unit (one case in staff)
• Court at Laurelwood retirement (two cases in residents, two in staff)
• Manufacturing/industrial 25 (four cases)
• Sunnyside Home long-term care – Button Works Unit (one staff case)
• St. Mary's General Hospital – Third floor West Unit
• Highview Retirement (one staff case)
• Construction 7 (three cases)
• Warehousing 5 (three cases)
• Briarfield Garden retirement (one staff case)
• Congregate setting 26 (21 cases)
• St. Mary's General Hospital – fifth floor
• The Village of Winston Park long-term care (four cases in residents, eight cases in staff)
• Lanark Heights long-term care (two cases in residents, six cases in staff)
• St. Luke's Place long-term care (15 cases in residents, nine in staff, one death)
• Derbecker's Heritage House long-term care (12 cases in residents, six in staff)
• Congregate setting 18 (107 cases)

The outbreaks at a congregate setting and Luther Village on The Park retirement have ended.
