Public health reports 102 COVID-19 cases Tuesday, one more death

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 102 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

One new death was also reported at Chartwell Westmount LTC, lifting the death toll in Waterloo Region to 182.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 8,503 cases in the region.

53 people are hospitalized due to the virus, 15 of those patients are in intensive care.

7,452 cases are considered resolved, or 88 per cent, which is an increase of 138.

Active cases dropped once again to 867.

There are currently 48 outbreaks in the region:

  •     Golden Years long-term care (one case in staff)
  •     Beechwood Manor Retirement Home (one case in staff)
  •     Chartwell Terrace on the Square (one case in staff)
  •     Parkwood Mennonite Home long-term care (one case in staff)
  •     St. Jacobs Place Retirement Home (one case in staff)
  •     Doon Village Retirement Residence (one case in staff)
  •     Chartwell Elmira Retirement Residence (39 cases in residents, 17 in staff)
  •     The Village of University Gates Retirement Home (three cases in staff)
  •     Chartwell Bankside Retirement (one case in a resident, one in staff)
  •     St. Andrew's Terrace long-term care (two cases in residents, two in staff)
  •     The Village of Winston Park long-term care (three cases in staff)
  •     Sunnyside Home long-term care – Laurel Creek (one case in staff)
  •     The Village at University Gates – Wright unit (three cases in staff)
  •     Highland Place Retirement Home (ten cases in residents, seven in staff, one death)
  •     Columbia Forest long-term care (three cases in staff)
  •     Briarfield Retirement Residence (one case in a resident, three in staff)
  •     Chartwell Westmount long-term care (53 cases in residents, 31 in staff, three deaths)
  •     Forest Heights long-term care (five cases in staff)
  •     Cambridge Country Manor (60 cases in residents, 70 in staff, 16 deaths)
  •     The Village of Winston Park Retirement Home (30 in residents, 31 in staff, six deaths)
  •     Shamrock Independent Living Centre (one case in staff)
  •     Congregate setting 22 (three cases)
  •     Congregate setting 21 (one case)
  •     Congregate setting 20 (three cases)
  •     Congregate setting 19 (one case)
  •     Congregate setting 17 (eight cases)
  •     Congregate setting 18 (15 cases)
  •     Congregate setting 15 (19 cases)
  •     NEW Manufacturing/industrial 24 (five cases)

Meantime, the province reported 1,913 new cases on Tuesday.

  • 242,277 total cases
  • 1,626 people are in hospital – 400 are in intensive care – 292 are on a ventilator
  • 209,183 resolved cases
  • 5,479 deaths (46 new)
  • 34,531 tests completed Monday – 8.88 million since January 15, 2020
