Cambridge begins process to demolish Preston Springs Hotel

The City of Cambridge has confirmed the demolition of the Preston Springs Hotel is beginning some time this week.
This means, Fountain Street is closed from Shantz Hill Road to King Street until January 2.
Cambridge Communications Director, Susanne Hillier, says, “It is expected to start later this afternoon or tomorrow, depending on the contractor getting the equipment on site. The intersection will be closed for next few days.”
An emergency order to demolish the building was issued on December 24.
“Due to the unsafe condition of the structure, approaching winter weather, and the ongoing challenges of securing the property from trespassers, there is an immediate risk to the community,” said Dennis Purcell, Cambridge's Chief Building Official.
“Unfortunately, it has now come to a point where the structure is unsound and a threat to public safety.”
