UW, Laurier delay start of winter term classes (update)

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University have provided an update on their upcoming winter terms.

At UW, while scheduled activities will still begin on January 4, the first day of classes has been pushed to January 11.

On top of that, students will get extra relief in the month of March, as classes have been cancelled on March 15 and 16.

“I hope these scheduled pauses provide some relief and allow you to catch up on studies and focus on your wellbeing,” said UW President, Feridun Hamdullahpur, in an online statement to students.

Reading week is still set to take place from February 13 to 21, and more specifics about the winter term will be released over the next few weeks.

Laurier will also begin classes January 11, and the university itself will open January 6.

The university said the delay will also impact its spring 2021 term, which will now begin May 10.
