Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region (SVPWR) is celebrating a new partnership with the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASC).
SASC was founded back in 1989 with an anonymous gift of $1000, and 25 volunteers who started a 24-hour support line for survivors of sexual violence.
The centre now has 20 staff and 65 volunteers who provide individual and group counselling, advocacy and education programs, and a dedicated Anti-Human Trafficking program, along with the support line.
“SVP's investment in SASC will be transformational, helping us grow our capacity and community engagement, ensuring no survivor has to wait for support when they reach out. We're excited to work alongside the partners at SVP; their expertise, creativity, and connections are exactly what SASC needs to move forward in service to our community in this new era.” Sara Casselman, SASC's Executive Director shared in a news release.
“We build a new kind of relationship between charities and funders, not least by asking the organizations we work with to share where they need help. That’s not usually something easily shared with funders, but it encourages transparency and growth. I am proud to work with SASC as our newest Investee. We're committed to strengthening all aspects of the work SASC does, and ultimately, work together towards eliminating the waiting list for their services.” added Rose Greensides, SVPWR's Executive Director.
SVPWR is a registered charity that connects a network of community builders with projects where they use their professional skills to make a significant impact in Waterloo Region's charitable sector.
Since 2011, the group has turned over $550,000 into over $3.5 million of support for ten charities in the area.
