A Waterloo priest is facing an allegation of professional misconduct, that the Diocese of Hamilton calls “substantiated.”

As a result, Father Frank Freitas of St. Michael's Catholic Church and St. John Paul II Student Centre has been suspended as of July 13.

“On July 15, 2020, Parishioners of St. Michael Waterloo and members of St. John Paul II Student Centre received a message from His Excellency, Bishop Crosby, OMI, to inform them that Father Frank Freitas has been suspended from all priestly ministry as a result of a substantiated allegation of professional misconduct, the suspension took effect on July 13, 2020,” said Monsignor Murray Kroetsch, official spokesperson for the Hamilton Diocese.

Kroetsch confirmed that it's an internal investigation, and would not share details of any incidents that occurred. Instead, the Diocese are asking for prayers for Father Freitas and those harmed by his actions.
