Ontario invests over $300K into local festivals and events

Five local festivals and events will receive funding from the provincial government as Ontario begins to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a release, Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris, Kitchener-South Hespeler MPP Amy Fee and Cambridge MPP Belinda Karahalios, gathered at the K-W Oktoberfest downtown headquarters on Friday to announce an investment of $333,111 from the 2020-2021 Celebrate Ontario program.
The Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest and Ever After Music Festival will each receive $100,000, while the rest of the money will go towards the 7th Annual Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge, the Kitchener Blues Festival and Digital Dynamics 2020: Sound at THEMUSEUM.
According to the release, Celebrate Ontario supports festivals and events that contribute to local economies. Every dollar donated by Celebrate Ontario results in about $21 of visitor spending.
In a joint statement, all three local MPP's say this is a significant and timely investment that directly supports the tourism and cultural sector, which has been the most impacted sector by COVID-19.
“As the province continues to reopen in a safe and responsible manner, our government will continue to provide needed assistance to local events and festivals that will boost economic growth by giving people the confidence to explore locally and attract visitors from across Ontario.”
