St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market set to gradually reopen on Thursday

The St. Jacobs Farmers' Market is set to gradually open parts of the market starting Thursday, June 4.

Manager Leanne McGray says they will only be opening up parts of the market.

“So these are projections. We are hoping they're going to happen. We're planning for them to happen, but if something strange happens in the interim, we will push it back a week to make sure we're opening safely and responsibly. So these will be open only for food and produce. There will be no fast food available right now. It will only be for some essential food items.”

She says before the pandemic, they would have 200 vendors — but now they plan to reopen with only about 55.

“Again, the majority of that will be produce. And then we will have grocery store staples and things like that out there, along with a couple of suppliers of masks and sanitizer pumps and various items that people need that are hard to get at stores, we have some suppliers selling that too.

McGray says a lot of things may look different, starting with a fence around the entrances to help monitor the number of people in the area.

“There'll be a gated, fenced-in area to get into the outdoor market, and then a seperate entrance to get into the lower level of the market building, because we are monitoring the number of customers in that building as well. So lots of signage, loads of hand wash and sanitizer stations outside.”

She says they have a lot of cleaning protocols in place as well and vendors will be provided with masks.
