Another major charity event is going digital.
Cystic Fibrosis Canada has moved the Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History online.
Now called the “Walk Your Way to Make Cystic Fibrosis History,” the virtual event won’t see hundreds gathering in Waterloo Park at the end of May, but rather see supporters gather online all month long to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research.
Chair of the Waterloo Region chapter of the Walk to Make CF History, Karen McCulloch says they are leaving the playing field completely open, and those who register can be as creative as they like.
This could mean walking, running, biking or even getting artistic and writing a song for your supporters.
McCulloch says a simple registration will still help them out a lot.
“Right now there are so many people struggling, and we do not want to put pressure on people to feel that they have to donate when they themselves are struggling, it’s also difficult for a number of people to ask for money…we want to encourage people to register even if they are not able to donate because they can help us still with spreading awareness and with some of the advocacy efforts we have going right now as well.”
The opening ceremonies will be online on May 31st.
Several challenges and contests are also being organized to get people excited about raising funds.
“Cystic Fibrosis is a life shortening disease, and we cannot put it on hold during the pandemic. We still have important medications out there that could be helping people with CF and just need to be approved and brought to Canada.”
