If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, and have children to take care of, you may find yourself in a situation where childcare isn't available while you recover for fourteen days.
Family and Children's Services of Waterloo Region is reminding parents, they can help.
This could be simply reaching out to extended family or close friends to help or if need be, getting support from foster families for a couple of weeks.
Karen Spencer, Executive Director of Family and Children's Services of Waterloo Region is a co-chair of the Children & Family Services Working Group.
“Our agency has the responsibility to protect children in these situations. If parents are unable to make arrangements for the care of their children, we can help,” she says. “The focus is on caring for your community, and the need has never been greater.”
Currently, the service says it is reaching out to experienced caregivers in our community who may be able to take in some kids. This includes established day-care providers, educators and child and youth workers.
“We are also continuing to provide services and supports to the vulnerable families in Waterloo Region,” Spencer adds. “Our Working Group includes many community services planning together to help families and children through these challenges.”
More details on how the community can help are expected to be released soon.
