Petsmart hosting first of four adoption events over the weekend

By Tim Herd

Today is the last day of the first National Adoption Weekend of the year. Hundreds of Petsmart's across Canada are taking part, including four in the local area.

Their national goal is to get nearly 2000 pets adopted.

“I feel like we can do that because there are lots of little (animals) looking for their new home,” said Alexis Sine, Customer Engagement Leader for the Kitchener PetSmart.

Sine says the goal set by the Kitchener store is to get 10-15 animals adopted and the process is quite fun. “It's in-person and on the spot…just come on in and speak to one of the ambassadors…if all goes smoothly you can take home a pet that day.”

She added the benefits of adopting a pet, rather than buying one. “It gives someone the opportunity to give (an animal) a happy life…when you do adopt they tend to be microchipped, they have veterianary records, they are approved with a clean bill of health…they are also fixed and have their updated shots.”

The event goes until 6 p.m. on Sunday and the four locations include:

  • 655 Fairway Road South, Kitchener
  • E663 Erb Street West, R.R. 3, Waterloo
  • 600 Hespeler Road, Unit 68B, Cambridge
  • 183 Silvercreek Parkway North, Guelph
