Cambridge driver charged with impaired following head-on crash

On December 21, 2019, at approximately 9:00 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a multi-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 32 West of the City of Guelph. Initial reports indicated that two vehicles had collided head-on and both drivers had sustained injuries.

OPP, Guelph Fire Department and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Services responded and treated the injured. Officers speaking with one of the drivers formed the opinion that they had been consuming alcohol. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officer conducted further testing on the driver suspected to have consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Darshan Kanubhai PATEL, 42-years-old of Cambridge has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood). A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on January 24, 2020.
