The City of Kitchener has replaced the Iron Horse Trail pedestrian bridge near Victoria Park with a new pre-fabricated steel one.
It's all part of the city's Iron Horse Trail Improvement Strategy.
“It encourages residents to use more active transportation, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting an active and healthy community,” says Liz Christensen, Trail Project Manager.
The pedestrian bridge still needs the concrete deck and rebar installed and won't be open until the end of the year, along with the north section of the trail.
The south section that runs from Queen Street to Ottawa Street is complete, but the north section from Union Street to Glasgow Street is not.
Sections of the trail saw a number of improvements, including wider, re-paved surface, pedestrian lighting, line markings, new seating and garbage bins.
The north section will be closed in spring 2020 for the final touches.
