Cambridge Chamber presents Community Awards

The winners of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce's seventh annual Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Awards have been announced.

Their achievements were celebrated at a ceremony on Tuesday evening, held at the Hamilton Family Theatre.

The awards go to not-for-profits, charities and service clubs – recognizing both volunteers and staff.

“These awards are our way of acknowledging how much we appreciate and admire these organizations and individuals and what they do to make our community a great place to call home,” Cambridge Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Greg Durocher said in a release. “The wide extent of their outstanding work is something we should all be very proud of and celebrate.”

Winners were chosen by a committee, while the Lifetime Achievement Award is voted on by Chamber board members.

The 2019 winners are:

Best Corporate/Not-For Profit Partnership
This award is presented to an organization that formed a partnership with a corporation that went beyond mere donations in its corporate-non-for-profit efforts.
The winners:  Langs. Community. Health. Wellness/Ridgehill Ford Sales Ltd. 

Best Marketing Campaign 
This award recognizes an outstanding promotional marketing campaign that generated awareness of an organization and saw positive results.  The campaign may have been executed through print, email, web, mobile, social media or a combination.
The winner: #SheIsYourNeighbour, Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region 

Best Event of the Year Award
This awards is presented for an event or program that was implemented by an organization, which made a huge or important impact, that increased awareness and/or boosted the bottom line.
The winner: Ending Chronic Homelessness by 2020, Citizens for Cambridge

Group Volunteer Award 
This award recognizes a group of three or more individuals who have come together to volunteer their time toward a shared goal/activity or event involving leadership, innovation and creativity. Activities or events can benefit all ages. The Award is presented to the Service club or group who, through the contribution made by its members, resulted in the betterment of our communities or people's lives who live in our communities.
The winner: Cambridge Memorial Hospital Volunteer Association

Board Member Award
This award is presented to two board members who have demonstrated outstanding service to a not-for-profit organization in City of Cambridge or Township of North Dumfries through the giving of their time, talents, and resources as a board member to further the goals and objectives of the organization.
The winners: Mary Adamson, Argus Residence; and Angelo Loberto, Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation 

Volunteer of the Year
The nominees were involved in volunteering for the equivalent of at least 100 hours more than a 12-month period. Nominees volunteered for a legitimate not-for-profit organization, service club or community group. The communities of Cambridge/Township of North Dumfries or Waterloo Region must be significant beneficiaries of the nominee's volunteer work.
The winner: Keith Rivers, Citizen of Cambridge  

Youth Volunteer of the Year
The nominees were 18 years or younger and have volunteered for a legitimate not-for-profit organization, service group or community group. The communities of Cambridge/Township of North Dumfries or Waterloo Region are significant beneficiaries of the nominee's volunteer work.
The winner: Julie Rowland, Jacob Hespeler Secondary School  

Not-For-Profit – Under 10 Employees
This is presented to a not-for-profit organization or service club that provides outstanding programs, services, events or campaigns that support the needs of the community and its residents. This organization successfully raise awareness of issues affecting the community and successfully raise funds to support its mission and goals.
The winner: St. John Ambulance 

Not-For-Profit – 11 Employees and Over
This award is presented to a not-for-profit organization or service club that provides outstanding programs, services, events or campaigns that support the needs of the community and its residents. This organization successfully raise awareness of issues affecting the community and successfully raise funds to support its mission and goals.
The winner: Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank 

Lifetime Achievement Award 
This award is presented to an individual who, over the past 20 years or more, has made significant contributions to the community and has improved the quality of life for citizens or whose accomplishments have brought recognition to the Waterloo Region. (Selected by the Chamber Board)
The winner: Kim Decker, YWCA Cambridge
