WRPS and Leadership Waterloo Region are hosting a free pre-concert event at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery on Friday, November 15 at 7 pm for all ticket-holders.

A Canadian and US National fiddle champion, Shane Cook captivates audiences with technically thrilling and adventurous performances. Noted by The Canadian Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame as one of the “finest fiddlers in the world today,” Shane is a multi-instrumentalist who has distinguished himself as a master of the Canadian old-time fiddle tradition. Shane is a three-time Canadian Open National Champion, a three-time Canadian Grand Masters Champion, and is the only foreign fiddler to win the US Grand National Championship. Shane leads his own band, Shane Cook & The Woodchippers and performs regularly with several ensembles including The StepCrew; the PBS hit, Bowfire; and Grammy-nominee, Claire Lynch Band. Shane has toured extensively in Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, Germany, and Asia and several of Shane’s recordings have received CFMA and ECMA nominations.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be joining forces with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony!” commented Cook. “With pulsing fiddle tunes, some of Canada’s finest traditional dancers, and moving songs from the incredible band that will also be joining me, this will be the biggest and most dynamic version of my orchestral show yet. Come on out and clap, dance, sing along and celebrate a night of joyous traditional music from across Canada as well as the Celtic nations and beyond.”

SHANE COOK’S CANADIAN CELTIC ROOTS runs November 15 and 16 at 8 pm at the Centre In the Square, 101 Queen St. N. in Kitchener. Tickets can be purchased online at kwsymphony.ca or by calling 519-745-4711 or 888-745-4717.
