Bundle up donations for the One Warm Coat campaign

Help keep residents out of the cold this year by donating winter clothes to the One Warm Coat campaign.

Starting October 21st, The Salvation Army will be accepting donations at their location on Gage Avenue in Kitchener.

Can't make it to the Salvation Army? 570 NEWS, CHYM 96.7 and Country 106.7 have teamed up with Jiffy Lube to help collect donations by setting up nine collection boxes at different Jiffy Lube locations across Waterloo Region, Guelph, Brantford, Stratford and Woodstock.

Susanne Guenther, community and family services manager at Salvation Army, says the campaign helps a lot of new residents who may be experiencing the cold for the first time.

“We have a lot of new Canadians that have never experienced a winter before, never mind having the warm jackets to reach for.” says Guenther, “Even on a day like today, it has begun, right?”

“This is an annual program that we've probably run for the past six years. It is open to anyone who is in need of some warm hats, mitts, boots and scarves.”

When asked about what type of clothing the Salvation Army is looking for, Guenther says any winter wear is encouraged.

“Anything that's related to winter clothing, we are accepting donations to winter coats, mitts, hats and winter boots.” says Guenther, “We are also accepting in all sizes for men, women, children and babies.”

Donation boxes will be at Jiffy Lube locations until November 3rd and will be picked up and dropped off at the Salvation Army on November 4th.
