No football playoffs for Laurier

By Blair Adams

The season has come to an end for the football team at Wilfrid Laurier University.

The Golden Hawks dropped their final regular season game 22-10 to the Carleton Ravens at University Stadium on Friday afternoon.

A win would have meant a playoff berth for Laurier.

But the Golden Hawks only managed to put up 285 yards of offence, including 111 yards on the ground, their lowest total since their season opener against the Western Mustangs.

However, Laurier's defence held the Ravens to 270 yards of offence and did not allow a touchdown until the final minute of the game.

“Just offensively we couldn't get anything going which is unfortunate. We couldn't establish a run game early on at times and then through the air, obviously we had the interceptions and just couldn't be consistent.” said Golden Hawks head coach, Michael Faulds.

“Hats off to them they played an amazing defensive effort. What’s disappointing is when you play well enough in two phases, both special teams and defence played well enough to win the football game, and after three straight games of 50 plus points, our offence hit a snag today. Sure, it’s a bit a what we did but it’s a lot of what they did and kudos to them.”

It was also Laurier's School Day game, more than 4,000 children from area schools were in the stands.

The University of Waterloo closes out the regular season vs. McMaster in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.
