Confusion over parking bylaws has some Cambridge residents fuming

Some Cambridge residents have raised concerns over the confusing enforcement of parking bylaws.
The current bylaws state that people are not allowed to park for more than three consecutive hours on city streets, no parking between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. from January 1 to March 15, and no parking between those hours in the downtown core or regional roads on any day of the year.
However, some residents have been reporting that they have received tickets for parking for more than three hours, despite parking overnight.
Mike Mann, the councillor for Ward 3, tells The Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS that while it is the responsibility of the homeowner to know the bylaws, council should seek to clarify.
“They feel that they're parking appropriately and abiding by the law and then they get a ticket and they wonder, 'well, what's going on here?' And it has to be explained. I don't believe that the three hour limit was ever intended to apply to overnight parking, and that's where I think the confusion is.”
He says he has asked for an explanation over the bylaw enforcement, and that a report would be coming to council on July 9.
“I look forward to seeing it so that we can properly put this into place and clarify for people just what overnight parking is and when the three hour bylaw applies.”
