Electric-car maker, Tesla, has opened up a service centre on Victoria Street North.
It's where the former Saturn and Saab dealership was located.
Up until now, local Tesla owners who required service on their vehicles, would have to travel to either Oakville, Mississauga or Toronto.
Tesla tells KitchenerToday.com the new Kitchener location is part of their increased investment in service this year.
They add with more Tesla owners now in this area, it's important to give them the option to have their vehicle serviced closer to home.
They can do so by visiting the new service centre or scheduling mobile service for at-home inspections and repairs.
But Teslas should not have to spend a lot of time in the shop.
According to the car maker, their cars require less maintenance than traditional ones due to their reduced mechanical complexity and fewer moving parts, adding 80 per cent of service issues can be repaired by a mobile technician at the owner's home, workplace, or anywhere the vehicle can be easily accessed.
It's estimated almost 1,500 electric vehicles were registered in Waterloo Region last year, which is almost triple the amount of electric vehicles that were on local roads in 2017.
