NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF WATERLOO
*************************
The City of Waterloo encourages residents to learn about our environment and take stewardship action by participating in these free family Earth Day events.
City of Waterloo environment and parks staff do their best to clean up litter in parks and trails during the winter months. The consistent snowfall and ice of this past winter made it challenging, and as the snow melts, residents may notice more garbage and litter in these areas.
Earth Day events provide a great opportunity for friends and neighbours to work together to clean up their local parks, trails and private properties. Please consider participating in one or all of the following events:
20 Minute Makeover – April 26
Bring some Earth Day into your workday on Friday, April 26 at 2 p.m. Just 20 minutes of picking up litter makes a difference! Join in with the rest of your workplace or school and pitch in to clean up your private property. Teams of 10 or more can register for free supplies.
Earth Day Community Cleanup – April 26 – 28
Celebrate Earth Day as we work to remove litter from public parks and trails in Waterloo during our annual city-wide cleanup from April 26 – 28.
K-W Earth Day – Saturday April 27
When: Saturday, April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Where: Bechtel Park, 185 Bridge St. W, Waterloo
Enjoy free, family fun with interactive hands-on activities offered by local exhibitors:
- Dig in and plant native trees and shrubs
- Enjoy live birds of prey shows at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. with Canadian Raptor Conservancy
- Build a bird box with K-W Woodworking & Craft Centre
- Learn fun facts about nature from local exhibitors
- This event runs rain or shine. No registration required. Wear closed-toe footwear if you plan to plant a tree.
