BYOB! But that doesn't stand for what you think it might.
A new local competition, Build Your Own Business, is now taking pitches. The competition is open to anyone from 19 to 99 who has a passion for a new business idea.
Anyone can apply, whether they have a great idea and need support or if their existing business just needs a boost. The competition is specifically a good opportunity for those who may be out of work and need a fresh start.
“The group we are primarily targetting are people who had long term employment but now because of challenging economic times they find themselves looking for work again,” Brady Johnson, the organizer of the competition, tells KitchenerToday with Brian Bourke.
Johnson himself walked away from his company a few years ago looking for something new. He discovered it was difficult for a middle-aged professional to find employment. He knows many people are having that struggle.
“What we are trying to do is give them that opportunity, give them the help they need to do the same thing and be successful and not have to worry about going and looking for a job and create a business and have their own job.”
The competition is taking up to 100 registrants. So far a majority of those applying have ranged in age from 40-60. Approximately 75% have been women.
The winner will get a business package valued at approximately $15,000 mainly focussing on marketing support.
The deadline for applying is tomorrow. For more information you can visit their website.
