Police use stun gun on suspect, officer suffers minor injuries

On January 5, 2019, at approximately 7:58 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to a report of an unwanted person at a business on Columbia Street West in Waterloo. 

When police attempted to arrest the suspect, he became assaultive and a conducted energy weapon was deployed. A police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital and later released. 

The accused male was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure and later released. 

A 49-year-old male was charged with Assault with a Weapon, two counts Assault Police, Fail to Leave Premises When Directed, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of a Schedule 1 substance.
