Waterloo Region middle of the pack on crime rate but trending in the wrong direction

Maclean's has released its annual report on Canada's Most Dangerous Places.
The report ranks communities according to the Crime Severity Index, a Statistics Canada measure of all police-reported crime, which takes into consideration both the volume and seriousness of offences.
Kitchener-Waterloo and the surrounding area, as it is identified in the article, ranks as the 101st most dangerous community in Canada.
The study shows the crime rate is increasing in the Region at the 49th fastest rate in the country.
One of the most prevalent crimes is robbery where we rank 44th in Canada.
Waterloo Region also has a high rate of fraud at 82nd and a high homicide rate at 83rd.
Three local communities fared worse that Waterloo Region.
Brantford came in at 63rd, Stratford ranked 70th and London was listed at 88th.
Guelph is ranked as Canada's 122nd most dangerous city.
